This ancient castle is one of the most prestigious abandoned treasures in the region. Located on a small island surrounded by a calm lake and a picturesque landscape it’s closed off from everyday life.
The oldest part of the complex is the central church which dates back to the first half of the fourteenth century when the complex served primarily as a cloister. At the end of the 19th-century, the property was sold to the local Marquis of the region. Who also was a senator and wealthy landowner at the time. Together with his wife he completely renovated the cloister. Considerably enlarging the complex and transforming into an eclectic style looking castle with some neo-Gothic style elements.
The castle forms the main part of the complex. It has two floors and consists of over 90 rooms. Surrounded by two porticoed cloisters with internal courtyards, it's a place where you can get lost.
During the 20th-century the castle was showing it's first signs of decay followed by long periods of abandonment at the end of the century. A few years ago the property was sold to a company that had plans for renovation. Sadly the company had to declare bankruptcy a few years later and was forced to put it back up for sale again. With no interested buyers, the castle remains abandoned and without a purpose. Slowly decaying and turning into oblivion.
