Forest Railway

These abandoned train tracks wound their way through the forest, parallel to a babbling creek. The tracks had once transported logs from the hills down to the lumber mills. Now they are overgrown with moss and weeds, and the old wooden ties were rotting away.

In the past, horses had been used to haul the heavy wagons up the steep incline. The wagons would then be fully loaded with logs, and a driver would control their descent down powered by gravity.

As the years went by, the horses were replaced by locomotives, which really strengthened the vital artery for the lumber industry for these tracks. The locomotives chugged their way up and down the hills, their smokestacks belching black smoke into the air.

However, as forest roads developed, the railway lines became less important. Eventually, the line got abandoned entirely, left to the mercy of the elements. Now, they lay silent and forgotten, a relic of a bygone era. In the years that followed multiple floods destroyed almost all of the bridges and the railroad embankments.

The train tracks are hidden deep in the forest, winding their way through the dense underbrush and overgrown foliage. It was a peaceful and serene sight, and for a moment, it was almost possible to forget the hustle and bustle of the modern world and imagine a time when the only sound was the clop of hooves and the creaking of the wagons.
